The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
