The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
