Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
