Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
