Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
