The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
