The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
