He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
