The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Save worshippers. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
