He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
