The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 and when the mountains are made to vanish, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 by the night when it approaches 17 and brightening morning, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 And it is not the word of an accursed Satan; 25 where then are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds. 29
