The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
