The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
