And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 “And forgive my father* he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
