The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
