The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 they know but the outer surface of this world's life, whereas of the ultimate things they are utterly unaware. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them. 10
