He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
