Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
