۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
