The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
