Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
