Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 So he came from the chamber to his people, and suggested to them (by signs) to sing the praises of the Lord morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
