The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
