The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 (Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar. 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her]. 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 40
