The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
