The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
