The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
