By the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning for people -- 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
