And mention in the Book, Mary, how she withdrew from her people to an eastern place and she took a veil apart from them; 16 So there she screened herself from them; We therefore sent Our Spirit towards her – he appeared before her in the form of a healthy man. (Angel Jibreel – peace be upon him.) 17 She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah." 18 He said, “I am indeed one sent by your Lord; so that I may give you a chaste son.” 19 She said, "How can I have a son when no mortal has touched me nor am I an unchaste woman". 20 He said: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'It is easy for Me,' and that: 'We shall make him a sign for men and a blessing from Us.' This is a thing already decreed." 21 ۞ She conceived the child and retreated with him to a distant and solitary place. 22 Then the birth-pangs drave her to the trunk of a palm-tree; she said: would that I had died afore this and become forgotten, lost in oblivion! 23 Then one cried unto her from underneath her, that grieve not, thy Lord hath placed underneath thou a rivulet. 24 and if you shake the trunk of this palm-tree, it will drop fresh ripe dates on you. 25 Eat, drink, and rejoice. Should you see a person going by, tell him that on this day you have promised the Beneficent God to fast and never talk to any human being." 26 So carrying him in her arms, she brought him to her people; they said, “O Maryam, you have indeed committed a great evil!” 27 O sister of Aaron, your father was never an evil man, nor was your mother unchaste' 28 She pointed to the baby (and referred them to him for their answer). They said, "How can we talk to a baby in the cradle?" 29 "I am a servant of God," he answered. "He has given me a Book and made me a prophet, 30 "And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live; 31 “And has made me good to my mother and not made me forceful, ill-fated.” 32 There was peace on me the day I was born, and will be the day I die, and on the day I will be raised from the dead." 33 Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute. 34 God is too Exalted to have a son. When He decides to bring some thing into existence He needs only command it to exist and it comes into existence. 35 And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path. 36 But parties from among them disagreed with each other, so woe to those who disbelieve, because of presence on a great day. 37 How well they will hear and see on the day they come to Us! But the evildoers even today are in error manifest. 38 And warn thou them of the Day of Sighing when the affair shall have been decreed while yet they are in negligence and are not believing. 39 Indeed We shall inherit the earth and all that is on it, and only towards Us will they return. 40
