The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
