He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
