AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad SAW): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?" 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 But as for you, and that you worship, 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And surely they used to say: 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
