The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
