A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 The blast justly struck them and We reduced them to rubble. Away with such wicked people! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 We sent Our messengers one after the other but whenever a Messenger would come to a nation, its people would call him a liar and We would destroy one nation after the other, thus, only their stories were left behind them. God keeps the unbelievers far away from His Mercy. 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Prophet Eisa) and his mother a sign, and We gave them shelter on a height, a place to stay and visible springs. 50
