A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
