And undoubtedly Haroon had told them before it that, “O my people – you have needlessly fallen into trial because of this; and indeed your Lord is the Most Gracious, therefore follow me and obey my command.” 90 They said: we shall by no means cease to be assiduous to it until there returneth to us Musa. 91 He (Moses) said: O Aaron! What held thee back when thou didst see them gone astray, 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 'Son of my mother,' Aaron said, 'take me not by the beard, or the head! I was fearful that thou wouldst say, "Thou hast divided the Children of Israel, and thou hast not observed my word." 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said, "I perceived what they did not see. So I took a handful [of dust] from the footprint of the Messenger and threw it in [the calf]. That is what my inner self prompted me to do." 96 Musa (Moses) said: "Then go away! And verily, your (punishment) in this life will be that you will say: "Touch me not (i.e. you will live alone exiled away from mankind); and verily (for a future torment), you have a promise that will not fail. And look at your ilah (god), to which you have been devoted. We will certainly burn it, and scatter its particles in the sea." 97 Your only deity is God, there is no deity but Him. His knowledge encompasses all things." 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden, 100 Abiding under it - an evil burden for them on the Day of Resurrection, 101 On the day when the Trumpet is blown and We shall assemble the guilty on that day, blue -eyed. 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know well what they will say. The most just among them in the matter will declare: 'You have stayed away but one day' 104
