By the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
