The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
