Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge 34 who seeks to expel you from your land by his sorcery. What is your counsel' 35 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 36 and summon every skillful magician from all the cities." 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 The people said, “Perhaps we may follow the magicians if they are victorious.” 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 42 Moses said to them: "Throw down whatever you wish to throw." 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 48 Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
