Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
