A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
