The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
