Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
