Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
