The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
