The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
