The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
