Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 What, would they then say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
