The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
