۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
