He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
